How can you jump start your body into burning fat? One of the best ways to get your motor running is to get your metabolism into gear. What is metabolism? The simple definition is the breaking down of proteins, fats and carbohydrates or calories, or in short, to make energy for your body functions.
This is not rocket science. Once you've started this it's quite easy to self motivate yourself into keeping it going. It's a great way to get yourself into shape and start looking and feeling healthy again. Actually it's quite simple to start this process.
  • To start out with, you're going to have to make some small changes that will make a huge difference in your metabolism. Don't eat heavy meals. Eat 5 smaller meals per day instead of 3 large ones. This keeps your system in high gear throughout the day, which means you are always burning calories. When you eat 5 meals per day, your body is constantly burning calories and not storing them. When you eat a couple of huge meals, your body stores the excess calories because of the scarcity of meals.

  • Increase the amount of protein you eat. Protein requires about double the amount of energy to digest than fiber and carbohydrates. This action will increase your metabolism to a higher rate. Good protein foods are cheese, beans, lean beef or veal, roasted pumpkin, squash and watermelon seeds, lean chicken, pork or turkey, fish, lobster, crab, lentils and peanuts.

  • Get enough sleep. This is essential to your vitality. Getting the sleep you need, 8 hours a night, will regenerate the body so you can keep it moving. Not getting the correct amount of sleep daily will eventually wear you out and lower your healthy state of life.

  • Exercise. To build a high metabolism you must exercise and strengthen your muscles. Strength building at the gym or at home is necessary to maintain your high calorie burn furnace. Even going out for a walk, playing with your children, walking the dog or any activity to move that body will help. This doesn't mean long workouts, but it does mean regular.

  • Keep alcohol to a minimum. Avoid alcohol completely if at all possible. Why? This is a metabolism killer. Alcohol will slow your system down and stimulates your hunger so you want to eat more. Alcohol has seven calories per gram which is as much as pure fat. It's like drinking fat. Many alcoholic drinks have sugar added also.
